Curriculum Statement

At St Mary’s Junior School, our curriculum has been carefully designed to reflect our school vision of Care. Believe. Succeed., ensuring that every child is nurtured, encouraged and challenged to reach their full potential. Our learning and Christian values are woven throughout our curriculum and there is a strong emphasis on inclusion for all. We aim to provide rich, meaningful learning experiences that inspire children to believe in themselves and succeed academically, socially and spiritually.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced and ambitious. It has been thoughtfully planned using a range of high‑quality sources and approaches. We draw on established schemes such as Kapow, Jigsaw and Language Angels, alongside Hertfordshire schemes, integrating these with our own bespoke planning to meet the needs of our pupils and our community. This blended approach ensures consistency, progression and depth of learning across all subjects, while allowing flexibility to respond to children’s interests and strengths.
Carefully chosen enrichment opportunities such as trips, visitors and themed days deepen our pupils’ engagement with learning and provide meaningful contexts to concepts taught.
The curriculum at St Mary’s Junior School is fully aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring that pupils acquire the essential knowledge, skills and understanding they need for the next stage of their education and beyond. It is designed to be progressive within a spiral structure where subject concepts as woven throughout and revisited to embed understanding.  Through engaging lessons, thoughtful sequencing and strong links between subjects, we prepare our children not only for academic success, but also to become caring, reflective and responsible members of society.
