Reading for pleasure at home and school
Reading is a key focal point of the St. Mary’s curriculum. Without reading, vocabulary and comprehension, our children are not able to readily access other curriculum subjects, which is why it must be a priority for us all.
Shared reading is a great way to develop children’s language and communication and to boost their reading skills. Regular reading routines can offer lots of opportunities for learning during school closures.
As a parent, it is our job to provide an environment that encourages reading. It is not our job to teach reading explicitly (unless you want to!) but rather be a reading role model, provide books and enthusiasm!
To help make reading enjoyable and fun, we asked experts and authors what they recommend to help get children reading! Please have a look at at the following links!
